About Our Fields

Rufforth Playing Fields

The playing fields are a much loved and popular venue for the village locals, visitors from surrounding villages and for touring caravans alike.

Set at the York side of the village, the fields are approx 4.5 miles from the historic City of York and close to major motorways, so serving as either an ideal base for a North Yorkshire holiday or a stop off on the way elsewhere.

Along with the caravan and camping facilities the Rufforth playing fields are home to Rufforth United FC, Rufforth Cricket Club, Rufforth Tennis club and newly formed Rufforth Circuits.

There is also the pavilion building that can be booked for functions. Complete with lounge, bar and kitchen facilities.

Adjacent to the field is the Rufforth gliding club which adds to the charm of the area and some fantastic views of the gliders taking off and coming into land.  The airfield has its historic roots in WW2 where it was home to a squadron of RAF Halifax bombers.

With the excellent transport links, the Yorkshire coast and Moors can be effortlessly explored within a day by road or rail, including the popular heritage North Yorkshire Steam Railway.

Away from the East coast, other destinations such as Leeds, Harrogate and Hull are within touching distance and various market towns such as Thirsk, Northallerton, Helmsley and Knaresborough also boast a wealth of historic tourist attractions and shopping prospects.

There are a number of public footpaths and a cycle path linking the several neighbouring villages. These links create a fantastic means to reach local amenities at a relaxed pace such as village pubs, an Italian restaurant, Garden centre with café, City centre Park and ride and Poppleton Railway station.

There is also easy access to supermarkets and mainstream shops in city suburb of Acomb.

Dogs are welcome in all areas except the playground and sports pitches, however please pick up after your pet.
